Roof Deck Spans
Cost Effective Materials Equals Value Engineering
Here is just one example of a design that appears
to be better but isn't.
Is using a heavier deck an advantage? Not always.
When appropriate, National Partitions provides a heavier deck. This is
typically done when a heavier load is required. We always look to value
engineer our projects.
Others sometimes provide a heavier deck because
they lack structural steel capabilities for a more efficient design. For them
using the heavier deck is easier than using structural steel on wider spans.
There are two main problems with this. First, a
heavier deck costs more which means the overall cost of the structure is
usually higher.
Second, this design also places heavier loads on
the walls. This heavier load will usually classify the wall as "load bearing"
and force the design to use hourly rated walls based on building codes. See
load Bearing walls for more information. The problem? They do not have
hourly fire rated walls like National Partitions.
National Partitions leads the industry in value
engineering.
